Portugal – 1968-1982 – 1000 Escudos – PROOF – An extremely rare and striking Banco de Portugal partial banknote die proof engraver’s test strike for the obverse of a one thousand escudos note, 1968-1982, in blue/black with portrait vignette of Dom Pedro V to the centre, value in bold to lower left side, together with a die proof engraver’s test strike portrait vignette of Dom Pedro V in black, as used on the aforementioned note, mounted part-tacked on paper with cut frames (both extremely fine). Provenance: from the personal archive of the late Alan Dow, master banknote engraver to Bradbury Wilkinson & Co and the Bank of England.
